A hip replacement at 58, the months it really took, and the things I had to work out for myself.

Hip replacement, from the first limp to walking free again.

My hip replacement, and the recovery no one mapped out for me

By the time I had my hip replaced I had been limping for two years and quietly rearranging my whole life around a joint that had given up. What I could not find beforehand was a plain, personal account of what actually lay ahead, so I wrote one. This is my hip replacement told straight: how I knew it was finally time, what the surgery and the long tail of recovery really felt like, the risks and setbacks nobody dwells on, and the small practical things that made the difference. An orthopaedic surgeon checks the medical side; the rest is lived experience.
